Brutalism emerged in Europe, Japan, and other regions in the 1950s, evolving from functionalism. Under the reconstruction needs after World War II, architects explored fast and inexpensive industrial construction methods using rough materials such as exposed reinforced concrete. Nowadays, these primitive concrete structures are becoming increasingly precious in fiberglass cities and have become research subjects for young architects. Contemporary architects such as Tadao Ando have shown a fascination with brutalism in their creations.
'Soft roughness' is a gentle translation of the primitive roughness. It retains the sense of heaviness and monument like eternity in its structure, while injecting warm and breathing tactile details.
Color/Earth and Rock, Low Saturation Neutral Tone
Material/Extremely emphasizes the true touch of the surface. Wood grain concrete, rough mineral coatings, warm natural wood, and handmade fabrics are interwoven in the same dimension.
Minimalism, after decades of "de decoration", is moving from the cold and austere Bauhaus style to a more vibrant expression. In the design context of 2026, people are no longer satisfied with visual emptiness, but long to rediscover tactile narrative within a minimalist framework. Touch minimalism does not pursue absolute "less", but pursues "density of quality" - while reducing visual interference, enhancing the interaction between materials and people, making space a perceptible and thick existence.
The core of tactile minimalism lies in the "granularity of materials". It rejects the smoothness and coldness of the industrial age, and instead embraces organic matter that has a breathing sensation and can resonate with time.
Color/mostly uses soft natural intermediate colors such as oat color, clay color, cashmere gray, etc
Materials/Handmade microcement, lime based coatings, uncoated logs, coarse linen - these materials create subtle shadows under light, giving flat walls a "skin like" texture
